Handwashing
In 2022, Pauline Juliet Uganda launched a comprehensive handwashing initiative to support local schools in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the pandemic, an estimated 70% of students in Kiboga District lacked access to handwashing facilities with soap at school, a crisis made worse by prolonged lockdowns and economic hardship.
To address this urgent need, we partnered with Eco-Soap Bank to deliver a holistic, school-based hygiene program that reached 24 schools and 2 churches. Our intervention included:
Distributing 35,000 bars of recycled soap to schools and churches
Installing handwashing stations at every participating school
Donating educational signage encouraging frequent handwashing and demonstrating proper technique
Providing handwashing curriculums to teachers for ongoing education
Hosting student handwashing workshops led by local healthcare professionals
Conducting handwashing behavior research in collaboration with Eco-Soap Bank (read our published study here)
