Water Tank Project
Thanks to our generous donors and hardworking team, we were able to supply two water tanks to two local schools in Kiboga, Uganda. These water tanks will supply water to 1,500 students and staff year-round for these schools aiding in hand washing, laundry, dishes, cooking, cleaning, and drinking. They will be able to collect rainwater during the rainy season and be filled by water trucks when needed.
Water shortage is one of the biggest challenges faced by schools in Kiboga District, affecting not only schools but students as they lose study time traveling by foot to water wells and swamps to collect water. In addition to poor school performance and health problems due to sharing water sources with animals, there are a number of gendered problems as a result of water shortage as well. Girls often experience teen pregnancy, assault, predatory behavior, and early marriage due to time spent out of the classroom, unprotected.
These water tanks were a thank you to two of our partner schools for their continued support over the years. Last year, we were able to help a school with solar panels and this year water tanks were requested. We’re hoping to continue this streak and help a few schools every year with a larger project in addition to the help we give all our partner schools with teaching materials and classes (among other things). The number of schools we can help and how frequently is dependent on donors and other fundraising efforts, as finances have been less consistent as a result of the pandemic. We appreciate all of our donors and supporters of any kind who have enabled us to complete this project and help us further our mission every day: sustainable, women-led, community-led, and community-requested projects with a focus on women/girls and marginalized groups.
